OK, all joking aside...

One of the bills voted on by the house judiciary committee today, E2SSB 5688, was a bill which has received a fair amount of public attention (see here for the article the Seattle Times ran when it passed the state Senate two weeks ago). The bill's short description: "Provides that for all purposes under state law, state registered domestic partners shall be treated the same as married spouses and that provisions of the act shall be liberally construed to achieve equal treatment to the extent not in conflict with federal law."

Although the votes on this bill and its amendments were basically along party lines, and although this is obviously an emotional and highly controversial matter in many districts, I was very impressed with with how civil the entire proceeding was, and how well the meeting was run.
