What you see here is the famed Dumas Brothel (now a museum) whose claim to be on the national historic register is that it was the longest continuously-operating premise of this nature in the United States (1890 to 1982 apparently). According to my guidebook Butte was once a haven for vice of all sorts, and although prostitution was never technically legal it was essentially tolerated as being "a necessity for miners."
