The semiotics of snacks

So, most of the artists leave some complementary snacks out in their studios to lure viewers inside, much as the male Satin Bowerbird of eastern Australia displays attractive collections of blue objects to attract a mate.

If I had a studio here, I'd make that explicit point of my art. There would be realistic-looking sculptures of bowls of pretzels, and paintings of cheese and crackers on the walls, but in huge black letters on the rear wall of the studio would be the message: "IT IS SNACKS AND NOT ART WHICH NOURISHES US"
