Typical end-of-day tableaux...

Clockwise from bottom left:
  1. Sony Reader with the book Freakonomics queued up
  2. TV remote, used to turn off the TV once it's determined they don't have HBO or CSPAN.
  3. Piece of wood, apparently left behind from when some guest trashed some of the motel room furniture, now enjoying a second career as a back scratcher.
  4. Map, with piece of paper on which I wrote directions to the place I'm staying tomorrow night - it's apparently either a guest cottage or shed (I'm willing to be surprised) that some guy lets touring cyclists use. Given the intermittent torrential rain camping is off the table for the time being.
  5. Spicy V8 for breakfast tomorrow morning.
  6. Backpack
  7. Bike, with bags open (since they're nautical-style roll-tops they're much smaller when closed).
  8. Plastic bag for electronics and chargers.
  9. Waterproof cycling jacket, and compression sack with other waterproof gear.
