Another snapshot of life...

At lunch today, in a speaking voice that was still loud enough for all the patrons to hear, a guy was espousing his opinions that: (1) the United States should kill every Muslim man, woman, and child on the planet, and (2) that Muslims are essentially a plague or challenge, like Old Testament locusts, that God is inflicting on the Christian world as a result of their having "turned away from Him."

The interesting thing was that none of this raised any eyebrows.

In my observation, whenever people start to feel like the world has started to leave them behind, plus they've got too much time on their hands, two forms of escape become more appealing: drugs, or consuming hate. So, in a way, I'm not surprised that I was hearing about crystal meth yesterday, and genocide today.

But here's the irony: that this same person probably works himself into a frenzy over the (mistaken as I can attest from direct observation) belief that hippies are still out there yelling rude things to our troops as they return from Iraq. In other words, it would presumably be a hanging offense for an aging hippie now to call a soldier a "baby killer," but killing babies, along with the rest of the Muslim population, is apparently exactly what this guy thinks our troops in Iraq should be doing.

I think there just may be a wee inconsistency hiding somewhere in there :)
