The whole "TexMex" thing, or even just authentic Mexican food, doesn't seem to exist except in the big cities right by the border. I admit I was hoping this might be a statewide thing :)
I need to admit that the endless numbers of boarded up buildings along every small town's main drag has started to actually become depressing. I've asked several locals about this, but the explanations have varied, and I'm still not sure I get the underlying reason.
This is gonna sound weird, and maybe it's just a coincidence, but I swear it seems like the dogs are more polite here. In New Mexico it was common for them to try to chase me, here they just bark a bit and then go back to whatever it is dogs do.
