Quartzsite revisited...

I read an issue of the "Colorado River Reporter" this evening, and got a better sense of what was going on.

Basically, the town sees its unique contribution as providing a sort of "last bastion" of no-barrier-to-entry capitalism. You buy a $50 lot ticket which apparently gives you the right to sell whatever you like, and then basically the chips fall where they may.

Amidst all the forgettable stuff are apparently some skilled craftspeople, but I'm still left wondering if for most of the vendors this isn't viewed mainly as a retirement hobby. Given the strong crossover with what I'm learning is a common RV-based mobile retirement lifestyle, that would be my guess.
