I'm now in Louisiana :)

I admit it would have been nice if there'd been a "Welcome to Louisiana" sign. I'm looking right behind me and it's not as if there isn't an ENORMOUS "Welcome to Texas" sign :)

What to keep in your jacket

Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black was famous for keeping a dog-eared copy of the constitution in his jacket pocket at all times.

Personally, I'd have kept two booklets with me: the constitution, and the essay "Walking" by Henry David Thoreau. The former tells you how your freedom works, and the latter reminds you why it's worthwhile.

Good quote from Walden...

"I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
