The second kept on hammering while he said, "I am doing the best job of stonecutting in the entire county." We currently have no evidence that life exists anywhere other than on Earth's surface. So, it could easily be that if we fail to permanently spread life beyond our home planet, life will cease to exist in the entire universe once our sun dies. Therefore, if you can imagine any way your current career supports space exploration, even if only indirectly, then try to think of it in those terms; it's the difference between just making a living, and building a cathedral.
