My first recipe

As part of learning to cook, I challenged myself to create an extremely healthy recipe that was both simpler and cheaper to complete than using a drive-through. The following is what I came up with:

  • Eat Smart Broccoli Florets (3lb bag for $1.50/lb at Costco)
  • Safeway Butter Beans (15oz can for $0.99)
  • Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Oil (5oz can for $0.89 at Safeway)
  • Tapatio Salsa Picante (32oz bottle for $3.79 at Safeway)

Lower-sodium substitutes for everything above other than the broccoli include Eden Organic No Salt Added Navy Beans (15oz can for $2.59 at Safeway), Bumble Bee Very Low Sodium Solid White Albacore (5oz can for $2.39 at Safeway), Safeway Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (2.6oz for $2.39), and O Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil (34oz for $11.99 at Safeway).

Steam one pound of broccoli florets for about eight minutes. Immediately mix and mash the hot broccoli with one can of beans and one can of fish (both drained), together with some of the hot sauce. Serve.
