Knocking on Heaven's Door

I just finished reading Knocking on Heaven's Door by Lisa Randall.

This is the best general-audience book I've found so far on the subject of modern particle physics and the Large Hadron Collider, and no knowledge of mathematics is required to understand it.

I agree with Ms. Randall that the Large Hadron Collider is one of the wonders of the world, particularly once you reflect on its purpose: instead of honoring a megalomaniacal king or an imaginary god, this thing was built to illuminate the nature of the universe for all humanity.

It's hard to get much more noble than that.
