Not to toot my own horn, so to speak, but...

Although I learned to drive a car and obtained a state driver's license at the normal young age, I didn't own (or otherwise have regular access to) any motorized vehicle until I purchased my current 2007 Honda Civic.

But today, I drove from Baltimore into Manhattan, including driving around for a while in some of the most heavily-trafficked parts of Manhattan until I was able to find a gas station for the 10-mile-radius refueling Dollar required, and including pausing at the HI New York hostel to unload and check in. I then successfully drove through Manhattan at night to return Dollar's car.

Through all of this "trial by fire" I didn't make one driving mistake, and indeed the only time I was personally honked at by another driver, even in the heart of Manhattan, was for something unrelated to driving (the gas station I fueled at was mainly patronized by professional cab drivers, one of whom to judge by his honking took exception to how long it took me at the pump to fuel my car and get the receipt Dollar wanted).
