|Returning my rented Hyundai Sonata...

This return location for Dollar Rent-a-Car is underground, near the famed Metropolitan Museum of Art.
For the record, it didn't cost me any more to return my rented car here in the heart of Manhattan than it would have cost me to return it anywhere near the end of the TransAmerica Trail (including the Newport News International Airport), and as noted in my earlier post about the HI New York hostel I'm spending less per night to sleep in Manhattan than anywhere else I could have stayed, including the most economically depressed small towns in this country, so essentially I'm spending three days in Manhattan for free.
I say that not to brag, or to put down anyone who may have chosen to enjoy Manhattan on a much larger budget, but rather in the hope of sharing the information necessary to see this amazing city on a more restricted budget.
Obviously, given that all the neighboring airports are connected to Manhattan by mass transit, and the subway system is the best way to see Manhattan once you're there, ordinarily you wouldn't have even needed to rent the car.
