Speaking of song lyrics...

A few days ago, while on a particularly long and lonely road, I spent some time mentally replaying all the song lyrics I could remember, and trying to figure out which had the phrases which have made the greatest impression on me over the years. The winners are:

MOST HAUNTING: "And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run; you missed the starting gun." (Pink Floyd / Dark Side of the Moon)

MOST ROMANTIC: "I'm soft as glass, and you're a gentle man; we've got the sky to talk about, and the world to lie upon." (original lyrics as modified for vocalist Margo Timmins by the Cowboy Junkies for their Black Eyed Man album)

RUNNER-UP: "The ruins to the right of me, will soon have lost sight of me; love, rescue me..." (U2 / Rattle and Hum / that particular phrase probably written by collaborator Bob Dylan...)
